Yes, I know that feeling all to well OldBagLady. I try to factor the costs of International Shipping into my inventory on Amazon, and do not enable it as an option if it will make it prohibitive. Luckily, ABE (where two of the books sold) allows me to request additional shipping charges for International orders. I have now added eclectic Foreign DVDs to my radar, although I tend to stay away from media which I can't translate, unless of course it has an ISBN/UPC. Did the Warren Zevon documentary have subtitles? I think "Keep Me In Your Heart" is one of the top automatic tearjerkers of all time.

Not CDs, but I have a similar story about DVDs, which are also not my normal media.

We have a "salvage" chain in my area that buys up other stores' stocks of fire damaged, liquidated and etc. stuff. At any given time, you can find snowboards, hot sauce, and lawn furniture under the same roof, sometimes at a substantial discount. In fact, a bookstore stock at this place is what got me into book sales in the first place.

A few years ago, they picked up a stock of rental movies, a large percentage of which were Polish films. They up the discount on items that don't sell, so over the course of a few weeks, I picked up a few every time the price fell. I ended up with about 40 DVDs and then also bought some new cases as the originals were ragged out. My total investment was south of $100. My first sale was in excess of $100.

Although I listed most of these as being in acceptable shape due to missing booklets and the like, I have steadily sold these Polish movies for the past two years. Surely, I am the biggest seller of Polish film in South Mississippi :)

My favorite sale was the Bio of Warren Zevon (not ALL were Polish), which I watched, cried during, then sold the next day for $75.

I don't often pick up movies or music, but I always keep my eyes open for the hidden jewel.

About 4 years ago picked up 2 shrinkwrapped Jonas Brothers CDs at a Borders clearance sale for a couple of bucks each. They sold overnight for $150. Small happy dance there. Bubbering Rich!!!!

Thanks for the comment Char:) Mixing Rubbermaid storage containers with books always frightens me a little, as I am paranoid about dinging up the corners and dustjackets. This is why I use the 12 X 12 X 18 ULine Heavy Duty Corrugated Boxes, and I am planning on labeling each one on its' side, but I'm wondering if there might be a better way, or will it really be that simple? I just hope they're not planning on splitting up a quantity of 12 books to 6 different warehouses!

I'd get a Rubbermaid bin of an appropriate size for each of the warehouses you ship to. Mark them with the name of the warehouse. As you process your books to send to Amazon, place the book in the appropriate bin. When the bin is full enough for you, pack a box and ship. Rinse and repeat. :-)

I know it has been a while, but I always think of this post when I actually DO sell one of these types of book, and I wanted to tell you that I just sold a copy of Change, Leadership, Mud and Why (How We Work and Why, Volume 2), an unprepossessing little volume about the railroad company CN. I had the only copy, priced it at $75, and sold it in two weeks. In these cases, I always wish I had priced a bit higher, but without any other examples, and knowing that it might be a difficult sale, I figure $75 was a pretty good return on the 25 cents I paid.

Here's an odd thing--I had a similar type of hyper-specialised company book sell a bit ago, and that one and this one were both rush jobs. On the other, the guy requested overnighting, and didn't blink at the $75 bucks I ended up having to charge him for that service. I guess these might be gifts or something? I don't know why someone would need such a volume NOW, but they seem to.

Anyway, I am a "long-tail" kinda gal, and since I still have a little room on my shelves, I believe that it is worth my while to pick up these volumes, so thank you for that. :)
